Awareness Poster Sketches

Image
I really wanted to keep my theme not only simple but also make it so that no matter which sketch I ended up choosing, I would still be commenting on the overarching theme, which is caring for the environment. And as we know, caring for the environment can take on many shapes.I haven't really thought of how the text will be included in the posters, mainly because I find it much easier to think of the visuals and make sure they're strong before adding the text. Whatever text I do decide to add later, it is safe to say that it will be complementary to the imagery and not the other way around.  The first way that I wanted to tackle this was through awareness about the consequences of fossil fuels. The top-left sketch shows a car encircled in the recycle triangle. The top-right sketch depicts towers that are emitting harmful emissions to refine crude oil with a dinosaur fossil as its shadow. The bottom-left sketch shows a gas pump with the handle dripping oil on the ground in the s

After reviewing my different sketches, I decided that the one that most interested me was the environmental image. It seemed that the sketch that made the most sense was the one that combined a gas station with a safari background. My intention for making this image was to comment on the impact that fossil fuel companies can have on the environment. By placing a gas station in an atypical place it might make my point clear and perhaps even comedic. Looking at the finished product, I'm not sure if my inclusion of the gas station was obvious enough. If I could redo it, I would probably try to choose a gas station photo that was more head-on and not so angled towards the vanishing point. Please let me know what I could've done better.

I was tasked to use the Photoshop knowledge I have acquired to "hijack" famous photos/artworks for the purpose of my own political concerns. I will be approaching this as a political artwork and will therefore try to make my point obvious and perhaps ironic. The first political issue I will be considering is US National Security/War. With the (potential) Cold War with China, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the chinese balloon incident, my mind has been on national security recently. I don't think I'm alone in this, but I could understand if some people don't think twice about it. We live in a fast-paced society that doesn't really leave a lot of time to sit and consider the gravity of our situations. In order to highlight my worry, I will be using a photo of a happy family having a picnic with either violence or suggestions of violence going on around them.  (Sorry in advance for my crude sketches. They may be more like doodles than sketches, but I hope
